What I would like to know is how he got into this assisted living? I think it’s the right thing for him. He is absolutely right that getting hired is next to impossible. I’ve been through that experience too much, especially when I have been the best qualified person for the job and to have several job offers rescinded.
I pray that the best outcome is just around the corner for him. It was in 2006 or so when Virginia required posting employers on the website. Before that, finding work was far easier. Getting the Virginia Legislative bodies to undo the damage has been impossible, particularly when people like Senator Obenshain do their best to scuttle proposed legislation year after year. Facts about unemployment for registered citizens do not make a difference.
Hopefully something positive comes out of this. Not that the State will all the sudden jump in to save “Mike,” but that perhaps some public opinion for our side is gained. At minimum, the public can wonder why they’re spending $80k per RC.
Some how I missed this news story and I had NBC12 on 08/16 as I usually watch the CBS channel in Richmond.
Thank you for posting it here as it did not come up in my multiple daily news searches.
This morning I emailed everyone in the VA Governors, multiple folks at VA-DOC and every Virginia Delegate and Senator. Then I tweeted it out to the Governor, the Sect Public Safety, the VAAG, VA-DOC and VSP because I posted an Action Item http://goo.gl/A3zA3X for Legislation that I have gotten proposed 3 times that has been shot down by the VSP each time around.
Again, thanks for posting I was on it early this morning!

This article states the dichotomy of the state having to fully fund SO treatment programs and rehab or lock SO’s up for life. This is nonsense. All you have to do is remove all the restrictions that prevent SO’s from being successful. Most of us will be successful, we want to be successful, we are intelligent, capable, many well educated, and most have a great work history, but the restrictions the justice department puts on us makes being successful nearly impossible. I have found little resistance in society. All my obstacles are set up by the justice department. Just let me get an education, apply for work, chose a place to live, and get rid of the scarlet letter public registry. That is the death knell. There doesn’t need to be more funding, in fact less funding for restrictions would be the answer. SO’s have a 3% re-offense rate. Most never reoffend.
